The master’s programme in Spatial Design engages with the design of interiors, furniture, material processes and atmospheres. The students of 2020 have all formulated an individual approach to spatial practice, ranging from speculative imaginations, to concrete actions and proposals. Many of this year’s degree projects are concerned with current societal and disciplinary issues such as how to be a designer in an era of climate crisis and diminishing material resources, how to sharpen our attention to find value in everyday spaces and objects, and how local production can be open to unexpected material sensations. Some students look to nature, history and evolution in the search for substance and origin. Others work hands-on through case studies in and for society, with neighbourhoods, hospitals, libraries and disability homes, questioning norms and standards. The works present diversity and in the Konstfack Degree Exhibition 2020 they range from full-scale installations, furniture and prototypes, to speculative drawings, interactive models, photography and moving images.
