In unstable times, more than ever, this world needs designers that can provide totally new ways of solving the problems created by our unsustainable ways of life. Industrial design at Konstfack is a broad programme where students get the chance to investigate complex issues and ideate possible responses to such challenges. In this programme, students learn to frame their projects and shape their methods as well as the final outcomes, a journey that involves experimentation with materials, theories and forms. The nature of their inquiry, the context and its stakeholders will direct the type of solution that is needed.

The graduating students of 2020 present a large range of themes: social isolation, algae utilisation, sustainable laundry, norm-critical horse-riding gear, female urinals, an experiment in casting wood, culture-sharing through porcelain, hand orthosis, expressive personal prostheses, plates for eating alone, communicating emotions in 3D, light and moods, and the re-use of demolition concrete. What they all have in common is a curious, critical and constructive mindset, extensive research, and a wish to create inclusive, empathic and holistic solutions. Each process has involved a lot of prototyping and difficult decisions, resulting in the products you will see here today.

Teachers at the Industrial Design Bachelor’s Programme

Vi lever i osäkra tider och världen behöver mer än någonsin formgivare som kan tillhandahålla helt nya sätt att lösa de problem som skapats genom vår ohållbara livsstil. Konstfacks Industridesign är ett brett program där studenterna får chansen att undersöka komplexa frågeställningar och möjliga svar på sådana utmaningar. I programmet lär sig studenterna att utforma sina projekt och utarbeta sina metoder såväl som slutresultatet. Denna resa innebär att experimentera med material, teorier och former. Undersökningens natur, kontexten och dess berörda parter påverkar vilken typ av lösning som krävs.

Avgångsstudenterna från 2020 representerar ett brett spann av teman: social isolering, tillvaratagning av alger, en hållbar tvättmaskin, normkritisk ridutrustning, kvinnliga urinoarer, ett trägjutningsexperiment, kulturell förståelse genom porslin, handortopediska hjälpmedel, uttrycksfulla personliga proteser, tallrikar för att äta ensam, kommunikation av känslor i 3D, ljus och stämningar samt återvinning av rivningsbetong. Vad de alla har gemensamt är ett nyfiket, kritiskt och konstruktivt tänkesätt, omfattande utforskning och en önskan om att skapa inkluderande, empatiska och holistiska lösningar. Varje process har omfattat många prototyper och svåra beslut som har resulterat i de produkter som du kommer att få se här idag.
