Bachelor / Interior Architecture & Furniture Design

Spaces and objects emerge through an interaction between ways we organise ourselves, the ideals of different eras, and technologies – and do this through production methods that are analogue, industrial and digital. This field, where interiors, furniture and spaces take shape, is therefore grounded in, and arises from, the material and the ideological. At one time, these practices were not separate disciplines. Even less so were boundaries drawn between art and crafts. Now this field is again being renegotiated, both in expression and in what roles the practice can assume in the wake of the hold industrialism and globalism has on our everyday lives, our societies and our Earth. In this field of tension in which we currently exist, with fluid boundaries between art, design, craft and architecture, the gap between ideal and production once again comes into focus as 16 bachelor’s students graduate in 2020 from Interior Architecture & Furniture Design.

Their art takes thought-provoking points of departure and examines subjects such as: material archaeology, the colour brown, materialised links to a place through joints and plugs, sentimental value and design informed by nature, genuine and false material expressions, structure and spatial instructions, tactile form for enhanced sensory impressions, upgrading of the public toilet, reused architecture, material memories in intarsia, maximal-form/minimal-resource furniture, the standard’s lack of friction and care in our public institutions, spatial elements for method development, updated birch-bark, the braid as a design principle and life outside the white template.

In Interior Architecture & Furniture Design, we explore the interplay between humankind and its spatial, social, cultural and ecological environments. We work with interiors and furniture and their expressions, materiality, textures, light, structure, construction and spatial proportions. We question the identities, politics, ecosystems and economies of interiors and furniture. We inquire into the histories, experiences and ideas associated with the design of all types of spaces.

Rum och objekt uppstår i en växelverkan mellan sätt vi organiserar oss på, olika tiders ideal och teknologier, i såväl analoga, industriella som digitala produktionsmetoder. Fältet där interiör, möbler och rum tar form grundas därför i materiella och ideologiska förutsättningar. En gång var dessa praktiker inte åtskilda discipliner, än mindre drogs gränser mot konst och hantverk. Nu omförhandlas fältet igen, såväl i uttryck som kring vilka roller praktiken kan få i kölvattnet av industrialismens och globaliseringens ingripande i våra vardagsliv, våra samhällen och för vår jord. I ett samtida spänningsfält, med flytande gränser mellan konst, design, hantverk och arkitektur, står glappet mellan ideal och produktion åter i fokus när 16 kandidatstudenter går ut från Inredningsarkitektur & Möbeldesign år 2020.

De har tankeväckande utgångspunkter och behandlar ämnen som: Materiell arkeologi, den bruna färgen, materialiserade länkar till en plats genom fogar och plugg, affektionsvärde och design informerad av naturen, äkta och oäkta materialuttryck, struktur och rumsliga instruktioner, taktil form för förstärkta sinnesintryck, uppgradering av den offentliga toaletten, återbrukad arkitektur, materiella minnen i intarsia, formmaxade resursminimala möbler, standardens avsaknad av friktion och omsorg i våra offentliga institutioner, rumselement för metodutveckling, uppdaterat näver, flätan som designprincip och livet utanför den vita mallen.

På Inredningsarkitektur & Möbeldesign utforskar vi samspelet mellan människan och hennes rumsliga, sociala, kulturella och ekologiska miljö. Vi arbetar med interiörer och möbler och deras uttryck, materialitet, texturer, ljus, struktur, konstruktion och rumsliga proportioner. Vi prövar frågor om interiörers och möblers identitet, politik, ekosystem och ekonomier, samt historien, erfarenheter och föreställningar kopplade till formgivningen av olika typer av rum.
