Master/CRAFT! Textiles

In my degree project, I deal with perception and synaesthesia, which is a neurological phenomenon where one experiences several senses at once. Perception is not normative!

I work with textile dyeing and patchwork and relate my work to the principles of Gestalt theory. Our brains operate holistically and instead of recognising a collection of disconnected elements, we perceive the separate parts as a whole. Only when focusing on details, one notices the component elements. A textile patchwork is made up of many small pieces of fabric. Joining the small pieces into a great new whole evokes many questions about how the finished whole will be perceived.

With my work, I want to illuminate the diversity of perception.

I mitt examensprojekt behandlar jag perception och synestesi som är ett neurologiskt fenomen där man upplever flera sinnen på en gång. Perception är inte normativt!

Jag arbetar med textilfärgning och lappteknik och relaterar mitt arbete till lagarna i gestaltteorin. Våra hjärnor arbetar holistiskt och i stället för att känna igen en samling av skilda komponenter, uppfattar vi de separata delarna som en helhet. Det är först när man fokuserar på detaljerna man märker beståndsdelarna. Ett textilt verk med lappteknik består av många små tygbitar, när de små bitarna sammanfogas till en ny stor helhet väcks många frågor om hur den färdiga helheten kommer att uppfattas.

Med mitt verk vill jag belysa perceptionens mångfald.
