The basic idea of my degree project is to explore the artistic religious heritage and how images, symbols and physical objects are fundamental to cultural consensus. I’m exploring the phenomenon of common belief in something supernatural and abstract by using graphic symbols, dress codes and inspiration from the scenic features of the church.
There are two icons in the room, inspired by medieval Madonna icons, a seated sculpture in papier-mâché with a spot light directed on its face, and an altar with a typewriter where my performances takes the form of manifesto writing.
An important theme in the work is the connection to ritual and theatre, as well as the importance of words and images in people’s ability to form a belief. Experience and involvement are important parts of bringing thoughts forward, in art as well as in religion.

Grundidén i mitt examensarbete är att utforska det konstnärliga religiösa arvet och hur bilder, symboler och fysiska föremål är grundläggande för kulturell konsensus. Jag utforskar fenomenet i gemensam tro på något övernaturligt och abstrakt med hjälp av grafiska symboler, klädkoder och inspiration från kyrkobyggnadens sceniska egenskaper, där föreställningar tar plats.
Det finns två ikoner i rummet, inspirerade av medeltida madonnor. En sittande skulptur i papier maché med en spotlight riktad mot ansiktet likt ett uppenbarelseljus, samt ett altare med en skrivmaskin där jag framför ett performance i form av skrivandet av ett manifest.
Ett viktigt tema i verket är kopplingarna till ritual och teater, liksom betydelsen av ord och bilder för människors förmåga att forma en tro på något. Upplevelse och inlevelse är viktiga delar i vidareförandet av budskap, både inom konst och religion.
